Dere Alpha
July 11, 2019Dere Alpha is the unreleased AppSir game played by Myles on July 7, 2014 (as seen in Sorority Rites). It was highly recommended to Myles by her "hyperverbal chatmate," E.N. Later that day, Venice mentioned to her sorority that Myles was "already connected," which may suggest that the sorority (and by extension, The Family) is using this game for their own purposes.
In terms of gameplay, Dere Alpha plays very much like Dere.EXE, in which the player controls a simple character (wearing a skull mask this time) while navigating through various platforming challenges. The design of the monsters and even the player character itself seems to be taken by PROTO DERE, while the general environments and backgrounds and style of gameplay are all more reminiscent of Dere.EXE.
E.N. describes this game as "unstable and in constant flux." This makes sense for something apparently in its alpha stage. The instability is evident in a few apparent "glitches" (some would call them features). Boxes defy gravity, monsters pop up from nowhere, messages remain on screen, and so forth. Branch- or tentacle-like corruptions also appear later in the relatively short level that can be played.
Throughout the game, the player can read messages left by AIDA, who explains that she is there to help. She also apologizes for the state of the game, and later admits to "succumbing to the corruption as well," and yet even then she invites the player to follow AppSir on social media.
Overall, Dere Alpha serves as a glimpse into another stage of the development of the Dere game (the latest iteration of which is DERE EVIL.EXE), as well as being a "game within a game" within Sorority Rites.
